We’re Green – “It’s Worth It for Your Students’ Future”

Climate change and the environment are some of the biggest issues facing us today. We must all be accountable for our own carbon footprint and as a manufacturing business we are taking action to reduce the environmental impact of the production and distribution of our products. Academy Photography has set its vision and is committed to our policy for greener product and work practice and will continue investing and working towards creating a more sustainable industry.

Our Green policy encompasses all aspects of our company and requires the continual review, modifying, changing and implementing of new processes, products and equipment. We have implemented and continue to pursue environmental initiatives which incorporate processes and practices into day to day operations that improve the environmental performance and reduce our carbon footprint.

Listed below are the principle aspects of our business that are under constant review, and benefits of our initiatives

Water conservation

Water consumption in our printing process has been reduced dramatically with virtual waterless process through the acquisition of the latest printing technologies.

Treatment on site of water wash solution is recirculated reducing consumption. We conduct regular inspection and maintenance of all plumbing.

Air Quality

Digital printing process has much lower air emissions than conventional printing processes, our equipment filters any exhausted air through carbon filters purifying before released back into the surrounding environment.

Energy Consumption

Energy efficiency especially with electricity requirements, reduction of use of over head lighting, more use of more natural light, shortening of operating times of air conditioning. Rigorous work flow analysis and scheduling reducing amount of operation time on all plant and equipment. Reduction in the frequency of travel, by combining activities and meetings and changing our marketing strategies to reduce our energy footprint.

Waste/Recycling

Less waste going to landfill and subsequent reduction in soil and ground water contamination, greater reuse, recycling and recovery of waste products. Paper waste is segregated and collected for recycling. Ink and chemical containers are recycled, refilled for reuse. Residue oils and chemicals are contained and collected by authorised waste companies for treatment. Heavy metals from wash solution are removed on site by electrowinning and recycled.

Raw Materials

We use paper stocks with beneficial environmental characteristics - paper that is chlorine free, recycled, with at least 55% Recycled, and FSC certified virgin fibre, from a product group from well managed forests, controlled sources and recycled wood or fibre. Our stock line raw paper materials are manufactured from sustainable forests, and importantly have an archival life  rating.
